Really can’t wait for this one as this has been in the planning stages for over a year! About 14 months ago Matt Cline, winemaker/owner of the great California zin/rhone-style producer Three Wine Company came by the store and I not only loved his wines (as you may have noticed by their regular inclusion in our Friday tasting lineups but though he was just a h*lluva nice guy. We both agreed that when he next came to PDX in about 6 months that he needed to do one of our mid-week producer tastings. Well, due ti the way life is, six months turned into a year+, but finally we have him coming this Wednesday from 5-7pm for a free, drop in tasting where he’ll be showing off six different wines that are all spectacularly satisfying. What I love about his zins and Rhone-style wines are their integrity of flavor and style. Yeah, plenty big and rich, yet with incredible balance so they are never heavy handed. If Matt’s last name is familiar, you may know the Cline Cellars name which he and his brother started some years ago. He sold out to his brother and started his own label and now you can taste the results this Wednesday. PLUS, as an added bonus, Matt’s wines are repped here in town by Estelle Imports, and, including the new-to-town 2013 SOCRE Barbaresco, which I just tasted and is simply spot on Piedmontese nebbiolo. So all in all a pretty good lineup for your FREE sampling pleasure should you be wise enough to show up and indulge!
**All wines will also be offered at special “night of” discounts off prices listed!

–2013 SOCRE Barbaresco $38.95…92 pts-Vinous: “A terrific example of the vintage at its best. The aromatics alone are enticing. Sweet dark cherry, plum, sage, lavender, rose petal mint and licorice give the 2013 a dark, mysterious quality that is hard to fully describe. Deep and yet also weightless as only Nebbiolo can be, the 2013 hits all the right notes. This is a vivid and impeccable Barbaresco from Socré.”
