Vermentino: Fun to say, delicious to drink!

2015 SERGIO BREGANTE Vermentino “Segesta Tigolliorum”
$14.95 bottle/ $144.00 case

Believe me when I say in a place like the Ligurian coast of Italy, due south of the Piedmont, they know a thing or two about making wine that matches the natural bounty that comes from the sparkling Mediterranean waters that glimmer beneath the steeply terraced hillside vineyards that produce this mineral-driven vino bianco.  I am a big fan of wines made from vermentino as grown in Liguria. Rich, textured, with wonderful intensity and vibrant acidity, the best vermentinos, as this one is, exhibit an almost saline finish from the sea breezes that blow off the sea over the vineyards, making them exquisite matches for fresh seafood. And with oyster season fast upon us, you won’t drink anything better! A good $5-$10 less per bottle than any other Ligurian vermentino in town, it’s a  terrific buy in unoaked, delicious, and character-filled Italian white!
